Impressions about Switzerland, Genéva :)

Well, this was my first month here, and now it is time to share with you my thoughts about the country, Geneva, the swiss people...

I didn't want to write my totally first impressions about the whole, because I tend to be biassed against it, and than it is really hard to change my opinion about it...Just think about my hometown.. GYŐR!!! (no, no, of course I am not biassed against Győr :))

There are things, that I like and there are things that I don't like here...but that's normal!
Of course, I know, that Genéva is a totally different part of Switzerland, and a very special part of it.. so what is true in Genéva, it is not for sure true for other part of Switzerland..

Genéva is an international city, with all the international organisations, banks, etc.

It is really hard to find a "real, real, 100%" swiss around here, everybody is half german-half swiss, half french-half swiss, but the majority is quarter of something, quarter of israelian, american, swiss, nigerian.. I do not know...

Really, it took me 3 weeks to meet somebody who is 100% swiss, and his great grand parents lived there as well...and guess what, it was not in Genéva...but in a small city, somewhere cloes to Italy...in the south...

But I like this diversity here...meet people from all over the world, form totally different culture, from totally different mindset...
and it is good to see on the faces, that I am hungaraian, and everybody is waiting for some more nationalities... I got several times the questions..yeah, ok, you are hungaraian, and your parents, your grandparents?
Well... i know it is borring, but everybody is from Hungary, moreover, everybody is from GYŐR!!!! :)))

(now my bias is understandable... :))

In Genéva,there are lot of green areas, parcs...when the wheather is good, everybody is outside, even businessmen, with suit, they sit on the stones, and eat there lunch there!!!
Cool!!!

I love it! :)

The Swiss people are very democratic, and they are always striving for consens, in a very silent, and calm way. And they have elections "every sunday" :)))) About everything... :)))

There was one prejudice, about the swiss pepole, it was about the time, they are always punctual, never late, and of course WATCHES are very important for them, i.e Rolex!

Tissot is also good... I just have to wait for my salary... and than I can be integrated to the swiss society...
Because @HP... everybody has got huge, huge (even too big), and of course expensive watches...
so, when they saw mine...my beatiful, small, and not that expensive watch..well, that was a cultural shock...for them... :)

MIGROS owns everything...

Migros is a brand for everything (like Tesco at home...), they have Migros bank, Migros shoppes, Migro exchange, Migros petrol station...and they are usually cheap (ok, cheap in Switzerland...)

I was told, that there is a big competition betwwen Coop and Migros, they are almost on the same price, something is cheaper in one, others are chepaer in the second one...But, if your parents, your grandparents, their parents went to Coop, than u have to go ther as well, ok, not have to, but than u will go there as well, that's the tradition...

For me, I prefer the cheaper... ;)

Of course, Switzerland is famous for it's cheese, and CHOCOLATE!!!!

But, keep in mind: never let a belgian and a swiss to talk about the chocolates...
if u do so, be sure, u have a clear argument, and a clear choice, whether belgian or swiss chocolate are better!!!!

Well...both are delicious!

And one thing is sure, in Belgium chocolate is something special, some kind of luxury, you will never find a belgian chocholate for 75 cents... (Vincent told me)
In Switzerland, you can...

Chocolate is (one of) the best topic among internationals....yesterday we compared the hungarain, american, nigerian, german (MILKA), swiss and belgian chocolate...
well... the result is shocking...
we couldn't decide...
yes, because, it was just a theoretical comparison, we didn't try them.. unfortunately...

But, we decided to organize a Chocolate fondue night!!!
I can't wait for this!!!
hmmm....nyammmmii... :)))

So, dear Reader, now it is time to vote... Which chocolate do u think is the best in the world???
(if u say swiss, than name a brand as well, so than next time i can taste it:)

It is also a test, measuring who is reading my blog... :)

Votes for TúróRudi won't be counted :)

I love all chocolate, white, bitter, milk, small, big, filled with sth, with penuts, in different flavour! :)))

oh.....

Swiss dreams!

Technology...IT...HP...

I am still wondering, what am I doing @HP???
Really...

Everybody around me is an IT expert, IT specialist, IT genius...or at least know everything about lap tops, headsets, pixcels, and the other words I do not even know...
It's strange...

Specially, when you have to order a headset for yourself...and you have to choose the best...

Why did they give me this task???

ok, no complaining...it's a challenge...and it is just about a headset..at least I know what it is...

And, the IT helpdesk already knows my voice, and nowadays, always when I would like to talk to him, he is always away, busy, out of the office... Strange, isn't it?

Technology...yeah.. on Wednesday we had a telephone conference, on the net!!!
With Netmeeting...:)
That was sooo greeaaat!!!

Previously, I got an email, with all the instructions I should do (really, for dummies: dial 0, than dial 33523257, then press 2, than wait till..., than..)
So it was easy to install the whole process...

But of course, it's me.. so.. nothing is easy for me... :)

Still, it's really cool, we have the opportunity to see i.e. an italian employee's desktop, and if he gives us the right to control his lap top, we can even write on his lap top in Italy, form Switzerland, form my desk...
Cool...amazing...

Of course, we were totally shocked, and excited about all this, told it to our boss as well, and he just: "Oh, yes..that's HP...the best technology, the best ever..."

(ok, maybe know I broke some blogging rules accoriding to HP Standard of Businees Conduct...:)) )

But still, really, if we have all these brand new technlolgy, internet, everything, we do not need to go TO the office, we can easily work from home...
I can see that in the future...and I don't like it...
no personal relationship, just contact via net, writing, no real meetings...

Maybe I am too traditional, not openminded enough, or maybe it is because of my lack knowledge of IT...but still...

Anyway...

Yesterday, we had a BBQ party!!! :))))

It was very very great!!!
The food, the people, the environment, the drinks, the people...!!! :)))

Here are some pictures:

Ok,the last one was the toilett...but the main thing is the wallpaper!!!
The whole house was an antic style house...but wonderful! and the garden...wow...

The best was the key in the toilet...but no photo about it... :)

So, everybody is asking me, what am I doing @HP...
Well...the whole department, where I am doing my internship is about to change...to change as a whole, people are leaving, new are coming (Peter and myself)...the whole system, how they worked before my boss came, was totally different, what my boss now wants...Actually, there is only 1 person who knows the whole process from the begining til the end, and that will be my task to follow up, to understand, to document this proccess, and the main part is to find out a tool, a system, how to communicate this whole process... It is actually very interesting, because the planing has just started, so now I can influence from the begining, and see everything...
BUT.. it is not really a financial job...

My other task will be more operational...we are colllecting datas from all over Europe, Middle East and Africa...I have to collect them as well - from our partners, employees, everybody - than play with them - structure them, a little analyse as well, but the biggest part of that will be Peter's job. He will do more technical job, delaing with excell, with metrics, and d osome simulations, forecast...
Well, his job is more financial... :(

So, basicly, Knowledge mmanagement, and Data management is my job...
sounds interesting... :S

Ok, I didn't expect to be a manager, or a decisionmaker, but still... yeah, it is an internship...

but so far, I like it... there are also other traniees at the company, so, networking is working :)

This week was about learning, get to know the company a little, do some trainings (well, american style...international company...training about the Standard Business Conduct, IT security, Health... "intersting" but usefull topics...)
And form tuesday we can start working...:)FINALLY!!!! Yeaaahhh

First days @HP

Yees, finally we got our workpermit...

Ok, I don't want to write a lot about it...It's enough, that I was totally freaked out, almost (maybe not...) crying, how will I have money, what is going on with our contract, etc.
The best was, when a man from the workpernit office said: It is not even legal for the 2 hungarians to stay here...

OH COOOOOMMMMMEEEEOOON!!!!

Hungary is EU-member country... What's going on???

So for this statement, we went to the Office Cantonale de la Population...personally...
First they were not that helpful, but we were trickier, so finally, after half an hour begging, shouting, politly asking finally we got the right to start working...

We are still waiting for the workpermit, but it's just a small detail...doesn't matter...

Unbeliveable, the burocracy is almost as bad as in Hungary...
Maybe worst...

So, than we called the boss..He was soooo happy!!!!
Almost as we were... ;)

And finally on Tuesday we could start.
Yes, just for the joke.. on Tuesday at 7:30 in the morning, I got an sms saying that my boss is ill, we won't meet him in the morning, but somebody will take care for us in the office...

Nooo...nothing goes so easily...
But..why not????
Why does it have to be so complicated???

Anyway, on Tuesday, went to the HP...
The company is almost in France...from the office I could see the mountains, which belongs to France... :)))
really...around 5 minutes :)

HP is an american company, so the whole office is a 3-floor building.. I imagined something like Deutsche Post in Bonn... but no... :(

And there are boxes...yeah, that's not the proper expression, I know, just I've forgotten the name of it... anyway, so we are working on boxes, cabins, and I've got a lap top :)
Ok, yeah, it would be weired, if a company wouldn't have given a computer...
I can take it home as well...but it doesn't have so much sense...

The job sounds really nice, challenging, and responsible...
SOUNDS...

we will see...

And my boss is really cool, funny, lazy, crazy... :)
He remembered everything what I told them on the interview...(maybe because of the records...Móni? :)
And he said, yeah, well, I think, you like working together with people, talking, talking, so I give you 2 projects...
:)

Actually, after 1,5 day "hard working", now I have 2 days off..which is cool...

Today there is a national holiday in Switzerland :)
And Friday is off as well :)

I am wondering what are my friends doing,...final thesis, lots of work, work, work...
HOLD ON!!! :)))
Just a few more days!
And send me photos taken for the yearbook!
I need all...or at least send me the link lateron :)

I would like to be on the photos as well... :((

Anyway...before I cry, I upload 2 pictures about HP :)

Yesterday we went out, to celebrate Diana's birthday! :)

We went to Heaven...which is a very nice place, specially, if u can find it :)
After some minutes in the rain, finally we found it :)
And this is a pub, where u are not allowed to smoke!!!
What a nice idea!!! And there ARE people there, so it worth to the pub :)

It was a good night, until...I sat between a girl from Israel, and a palestin guy.. well...that was interesting.. listening to 2 people, talking with each other about their situation...blow my mind...challenging my worldview...

After a guiness we left the place...because they close at 1!!! or even earlier...

But I am waiting for tomorrow! Vodka and some people, and party!

(Unbeliveable, I am writngi again about the party...:))

kisses,
Havas

(Something has to happen in Heroes 23...it starts being borring and predictable...but House :)

Kick-off 2007, Fiesch

Ok, that's true...I should write in English...as I am very very lasy, and I get bored easily just writing here... (:)) that's wh I can not promise, that I will always write her in Hungarian as well...
Anyway, so this weekend I went to the Kick-off...which is an aiesec conference. It took place in Fiesch :)
It is a beautiful small village, not even mentioned in my BOOK about Switzerland :)
(this is a perfect book...)

On Friday I was totally freaked out, ok, I don't have money, I don't have my workpermit, I wanted to rent a new flat, but before we could signe the contract, the owner called, that the flat is not available, and the biggest problem was that I didn't have anything for the parties... (The other me, Timemachine...)
Yes, that was the biggest problem :)

With the other trainees from Geneva left around 18... It is really cool, that u can buy a card, which means that u can buy every ticket half price... and if u are under 25, there is an other card, whith this u can travel for FREE after 7... :)
Ok, for the first time, when u have to buy these cards.. it is really expensive, but it worth...actually, after the 2nd travel, u can get back ur money :)

The traintrip was amazing!!!!
If I looked out on the right saw the Lac Léman (Genevean lake), on the left the mountaines... with snow!!!!
áááááááááááááá

Amazing, beatuiful, gorgeous...(well I have to improve my vocabulary...)

Of course as a cool intern, we already started drinking in the train :)))

We had to change in Brig, that was funny... It is a small village, and according to the internet, we had to walk 7 minutes to get from the trainstation to the busstation.... well, yes...it took 7 minutes, if u go to the Hauptstrasse, than turn back and on the other side go back... :)
But the main square is also beautiful :)

From Brig to Fiesch we went by bus...well... busses and me... khm...
in the mountaines...fortunatly it just took half an hour...I am not sure whether I could have handled more time... :)))

So, it was a normal camp, with nice rooms, around 20 other people in the same room, common showers, nothing special :)

But the environment!!!!

This conference was great! All the tracks were here, different agenda for noewies, teames, leeders, goldies, and for interns...
For example, we had "Networking and Challenging my worldview" session...

Yes, now I can imagine your faces...of course my was the same as well...
ok, again this session..perfect.. challenging my worldview... nooooo wayy.... i will skip it... bullshit, fluffy stuff...just talking...
And nooo
Imagine, this means..."Exploring Fiesch" :)))))

That wasw the best, with the goldies we went to the village, and got to know each other... :)))
And we just enjoyed the sun, the mountains, the perfect blue sky, and the cloudes...

Actually, we figured out a new method for the "introduction.."
You can imagine, you meet somebody for the first time.. and start, "Hi, I am Szilvia from Hungary...
No, not form Budapest...
No, not from the Lake Balaton...
I am an intern in LC Geneva, I will work at HP, Hewlett-Packard as a Sales
Compensation Analyst,
ok, not now, I am waiting for my workpermit...
yes, me neither, I do not understand, of course Hungary is EU-member country...
I was in Aiesec in Hungary , I did... And u?"

That speech happened always, like for 100 times...
no no way...
so, we were joking, ok, why not just put a paper on us, and than go to a totally stranger, and ask him: "Do u like reading, books, travelling, politics? anything, just not always the same..."

Here are some picture about Fiesch...

So, just to cut it short, it was great!!! :)))
And I think, I am getting being involved in aiesec... that's true.. enjoying participation is the most important thing, if u don't enjoy what u are doing than it is useless...

But here... it is different, than at home...

Oh, and the best... LC Geneva won the "ROLE MODEL LC" award!!!!

Yes, I was not informed, that there will be an Offical Dinner as well... :S
So, I was almost the only one, who wore jeans with a Tshirt...everybody in suit, nicem, beautiful skirt, blackclothes....
That could be the feeling for us in Tokio... :D

I meet a lot of amazing people from all around the world... I meet a guy from Nigeria, who is the best friend of our MCVP X Aiesec in Hungary... :))

I meet a trainee for Sweden, who is working together with Jucus... :)))

The world is so small... amazing :)

kisses

Havas

The LC, a small part of the interns, and more picture about Fiesch... :)
